In early 2010, economics and politics in the United States indefinitely postponed NASA's latest plans for a moon base. Later that year, however, the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) unveiled plans to establish an unmanned lunar base by 2020. In the private sphere, however, Google's Lunar X Prize competition continues to advance small-scale lunar spacecraft technology. Reaching the moon is arguably one of humanity's greatest achievements. Thus far the pinnacle of our travels into the mysteries of space. Time will tell exactly when and how we muster the willpower and develop the technology to surpass it. Did NASA win the space race? Their heads were placed on pikes. Photo of Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the "underwear bomber." The odds of being killed in a terrorist attack in the U.S. 20 million, far less than being struck by lightning or dying of heart disease. This failed terrorist plot by 23-year-old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab gets high marks for creativity. On Christmas Day in 2009, the Nigerian native wearing underwear loaded with explosives managed to get through airport security and board a flight from Amsterdam to Detroit. Once aboard the plane, Abdulmutallab cozied up under an airline blanket and proceeded to blow up his undies. Nearby passengers were alerted by loud popping noises coming from his nether regions, followed by flames as the bomb malfunctioned. It was a stinky decision, one that authorities believe ultimately led to the bomb's malfunction. Somali national -- and cell phone business owner -- Nuradin Abdi was indicted for providing material support to terrorists who wanted to blow up an Ohio shopping mall.

How much radiation do these machines produce? Is it enough to increase cancer rates in the general population? And can TSA agents see intimate details we'd rather they didn't? The European Union has addressed these questions decisively: It bans any body scanners that use X-ray technology. That ban complies with a law in several European countries that says people shouldn't be exposed to X-rays except for medical reasons. In the U.S., the TSA and the vendors that manufacture the scanners - such as Rapiscan for backscatter and L-3 Communications for millimeter wave -- continue to assure the public about the safety of the devices. And they've taken steps to protect passenger privacy by installing software that either creates generic outlines of people or blurs certain regions of the image. Still, many people remain skeptical that airport scanners, in any shape or form, are completely safe. And many more feel a bit lost trying to understand how the machines work and how they're different.|BERLIN (AP) - Russian President Vladimir Putin hosted Germany's chancellor on Tuesday after the Kremlin signaled that it was still possible for diplomacy to head off what Western officials have said could be an imminent invasion of Ukraine. In another possible sign that the Kremlin would like to lower the temperature raised by its amassing of troops bear Ukraine's border, Russia announced that some units participating in military exercises would begin returning to their bases. But much remains unclear about Russia's plans. How the latest crisis over Ukraine will play out. WHAT IS THE RUSSIAN GOVERNMENT SAYING? Russia’s Defense Ministry announced that some units participating in exercises would begin returning to their bases. But it wasn't immediately clear where exactly these troops were deployed or how many were leaving. The news came a day after Western officials said some forces and military hardware were moving toward the Ukrainian border, muddying the picture. Russia denies it has any plans to invade Ukraine, despite placing troops on Ukraine’s borders to the north, south and east and launching massive military drills nearby.

The biggest feature of this type of conferencing Call is that it is supported by webRTC or REAL TIME CALLING standard. Because of this feature, it becomes ideal for those wanting to join the meeting or conference from outside the organisation. This is a really handy method as with it, simply by sharing the URL, you can make anyone a part of the video conferencing and moreover, there is no requirement of downloading any software as such. In terms of selection of this type of video conferencing, experts say that you should always ask if they offer full WebRTC based options, enabling 2-way video, audio and content sharing through the browser. With the world getting more and more used-to-mobile, mobile based video calls and video conferencing has become the real help for businesses and even those having phone systems for small business. Joining this type of video conferencing Call is very easy, as it will only require joining via a vendor's proprietary mobile app. Then, there is also an option of leveraging webRTC and use browser for joining the video call and this way, again, there would be no requirement of additional software in the desktop. However, it is recommended to download the meeting app of the mobile as from there, they can get a complete access to all the features of mobile-based video conferencing. Mobile conferencing allows users to join anywhere with a Wi-Fi signal or by connecting via the data plan provided by a cellular carrier. Some technically advanced apps offer a variety of toll-free and local phone number choices for dial-in and call me-back service.

Electrotactile stimulation is a higher-tech method of receiving somewhat similar (although more surprising) results, and it's based on the idea that the brain can interpret sensory information even if it's not provided via the "natural" channel. The brain then recreates the images from analysis of the impulse patterns. The multiple channels that carry sensory information to the brain, from the eyes, ears and skin, for instance, are set up in a similar manner to perform similar activities. All sensory information sent to the brain is carried by nerve fibers in the form of patterns of impulses, and the impulses end up in the different sensory centers of the brain for interpretation. To substitute one sensory input channel for another, you need to correctly encode the nerve signals for the sensory event and send them to the brain through the alternate channel. The brain appears to be flexible when it comes to interpreting sensory input. You can train it to read input from, say, the tactile channel, as visual or balance information, and to act on it accordingly.|China's unmanned submersible Qianlong III returns from its first dive back to the research vessel Dayang Yihao (Ocean No. 1), on April 20, 2018. The vehicle is 3.5 meters (11.5 feet) long, 1.5 meters (nearly 5 feet) high and weighs 1.5 tons. But rest assured that China's newest unmanned submersible - the latest in the Qianlong line of autonomous underwater vehicles - isn't designed just to be cute. The new AUV is designed to go farther and deeper underwater and maneuver more deftly than its predecessors, which will allow researchers to gather data for underwater mining, among other uses, according to China Daily. It stayed underwater for nine hours and reached a depth of nearly 12,800 feet (3,900 meters). It's designed to go even deeper, down to nearly 14,800 feet (4,500 meters), China Daily reports. The AUV's resemblance to a clown fish is no accident, as it turns out, according to a news release on the website of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, whose Shenyang Institute of Automation developed the Qianlong line of vehicles. The Qianlong III's stripes enable researchers to spot and retrieve it more easily from the depths, and the mouth holds a sonar system that enables the craft to navigate and avoid obstacles. The holes that appear to be eyes actually house propellers that enable the craft to maneuver. And the ersatz tail fins actually contain sensing equipment that detects changes in the mineral content of seawater. The craft can stay underwater for up to 30 hours, and it's designed to be quieter and more energy-efficient than its predecessors. China also is interested in building the deep-sea equivalent of a space station, according to this 2017 South China Morning Post article.

Another approach to make the streaming analytics feasible on mobile devices is to utilize both object detection and tracking, which is captured by the technique “tracking-by-detection” (Bae and Yoon, 2014; Muller et al., 2018). By interspersing multiple frames of tracking (light-weight compared to detection) with each frame where object detection is executed, the overall performance can be sped up. The tracking-by-detection technique exposes several adaptation strategies. This can include selecting among a set of detectors and trackers and how to handle the trigger frequency between the detector and tracker. Empirically, we find that the execution time of an object tracker is 10X lower than an object detector. A judicious choice of such adaptation strategies is needed to satisfy the real-time requirements for energy, latency, and accuracy, especially on mobile devices. The stringent requirements on mobile devices at runtime expose another challenge for streaming video analytics: how to adapt (at runtime) to the dynamic user requirements and available resources on the device?

Hawkins (Leonard Roberts). Kring won't comment on their status, but he does make it clear that there will be major shakeups in the lives of returning superheroes and a long list of new characters joining the "Heroes" universe. In this article, we'll find out what's in store for season two. Is Jessica gone for good? Will Matt find his pregnant wife? Will Hiro make it back from the past? But first, we'll learn about the creation of the series' amazing special effects. One of the most complicated episodes was "Five Years Gone," a jump into the postapocalyptic future. The special effects department needed to produce two very different Manhattan landscapes and multiple superpower effects for "Five Years Gone." It also had to depict Nathan Petrelli (Adrian Pasdar) in front of the White House and at Ground Zero before having him fly across the New York skyline. To allow the character of Hiro Nakamura (Masi Oka) to interact with his future self, the four-and-a-half minute scene was filmed in four passes in 35mm using a motion-control dolly and a Hot-Head -- a remote-control camera head.

Follow the latest developments in the situation in Russia. Ukraine has been read at least 1.57bn times.57bn times. The latest entry under this hashtag is Ukraine’s president Volodymyr Zelenskiy deciding to cut diplomatic ties with Russia. Factual reporting with users’ comments (although many of them seem pretty pro-Russia). The US is not qualified to tell China what to do. The two hashtags have now been read for over 200m times. Clearly, Beijing has found a good opportunity to remind Chinese netizens of what happened more than 20 years ago. On 7 May, 1999, Nato missiles struck the Chinese Embassy in Belgrade and set it ablaze in a predawn strike, killing three Chinese citizens. The US said it was a mistake caused by an out-of-date map, but China was never convinced. Back then, it was a huge event in China that led to rare anti-America protests. Meanwhile, Taiwan is also under the spotlight on Chinese social media. The future of the democratically-run island has been getting a lot of attention in recent weeks as analysts see parallels to the Ukraine crisis. The related hashtag has received over 600,000 reads so far. China’s defence ministry spoke about Taiwan today, but its main target was what it called “Taiwanese separatists and independence forces”. The remark followed Taiwan’s president, Tsai Ing-wen yesterday urging her citizens to be “vigilant”. Unsurprisingly, on today’s Chinese internet, such a comment again stoke up much nationalism.

They unfortunately also continued a trend of failure -- most of the launches experienced major technical difficulties and animal fatalities. The best that could be said was that the second monkey, Albert II, survived his entire flight through space, only to die during reentry. A month after the Soviet Union stunned the world with the launch of Sputnik I, the first satellite to enter orbit, the Russians revealed an even more shocking plan. On Nov. 3, 1957, Sputnik 2 launched, but this time a live dog named Laika (Russian for "Barker") was on board. Originally named Kudryavka (or "Little Curly") by the trainers, Laika was a 13-pound, part-Samoyed mongrel female from the streets of Russia -- strays were preferred for spaceflight because of their strength and their ability to survive in cold temperatures. Laika in Sputnik II before takeoff. Her last meal on the flight was poisoned to prevent her dying a slow death of starvation. However, she died of panic and suffocation within hours of takeoff.
